DCYEA is excited to announce its first internship position.  In January, DCYEA will officially launch a Political Action Corps (PAC), a program designed to empower local youth to actively engage in the political process by lobbying and conducting effective political actions around the D.C. City Council and U.S. Congress.  The Political Action intern will coordinate the PAC by coordinating lobby/action days, skills trainings, building relationships with environmental organizations, and expanding DCYEA’s network.

The D.C. Youth Environmental Alliance (DCYEA) is a coalition of environmental youth groups in the Washington, D.C.-area working to affect positive environmental change in our schools, communities, and government.  

DCYEA seeks a self-motivated, independent, dynamic individual who is passionate about the environment and youth empowerment to join our team as a Political Action intern. This internship is unpaid, but DCYEA will work with you to earn credit with your school.

General Description

The DCYEA Political Action Corps is a program designed to empower DC-area youth in the political process.  Aside from providing young people with the skills and resources needed to effectively organize successful political actions, campaigns, and lobbying events, the PAC manages a core group of young activists that will form a permanent political action team in DC, ensuring that the voices of young people are heard loud and clear by Congress, the DC City Council, local citizens, and other relevant figures and organizations.

The Political Action Intern will work with members of DCYEA and environmental groups located in DC to organize young people around environmental politics during the first-100 days of the Obama Administration and 111th Congress.

Primary Duties

-Follow developments in national and DC environmental legislation and events

-Organize skills training/issue briefing programs for DCYEA members and the public

-Coordinate lobbying events & political actions with DCYEA members

-Build relationships between DCYEA and environmental groups in DC

-Strengthen existing DCYEA groups and expand DCYEA network

Qualifications

-Interest in politics, environment, energy, and event planning

-Strong writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills

-Independence in undertaking tasks and ability to multi-task

-Community organizing experience a plus

This internship is unpaid, but DCYEA will work with you to earn credit with your school.
