Last week, four rockstar members of DCYEA testified before the DC City Council in favor of the Anacostia River Cleanup and Protection Act of 2009, a bill that would put a 5-cent fee on most plastic bags issued in DC to encourage the use of reusable bags and raise funds for further river cleanup initiatives.
This was only the beginning. We have more to say.
On Saturday, April 18th – the weekend before Earth Day – DC City Council Chairman Vincent Gray will be holding a public hearing, specifically to hear from young people about their environmental concerns. Thousands of people will be having similar meetings with their elected representatives across the country that day as part of Focus the Nation. Let’s Focus DC!
